Job Introduction

BBC NI is a national broadcaster producing a full range of award winning programmes for Television, Radio and Online for both Network and Regional output.

This role sits within Technology Support and providing 3rd line support for key broadcast IT systems.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with our Principle and Senior Systems Engineers to support a multi-platform broadcasting environment with a diverse range of applications and technologies. They will also work closely with the Front-Line Support teams.

Are you the right candidate?

The ideal candidate will have knowledge/experience and interest in the following:

  • Microsoft Windows Operating Systems (Server & Client), Linux OS and Apple Macintosh OSX
  • Server and Desktop hardware Installation, Configuration & fault finding
  • Virtualisation technologies like Hyper-V
  • Basic scripting, in PowerShell, Python or similar for system maintenance and automation
  • Software Development (C++ and C# preferred)
  • Software revision control systems (Subversion, Git, etc)
  • Industrial or Broadcast device control and configuration systems

  • Traditional Broadcast systems, protocols, and methods of signal transmission and distribution
  • IT network technologies LAN/WAN, TCP/IP etc.
  • Active Directory management
  • Anti-Virus & GDPR

Knowledge/Experience in the following would also be beneficial (though not essential)

  • Transmission of broadcast Video and Audio over IP networks (SMPTE standards), and network timing (PTP).
  • Video and Audio codecs and DPP standards
  • Audio and Video Editing Workflows
  • DevOps tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, etc.
  • Campus and datacentre LAN topologies, network routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP
  • Network routers, switches and firewalls

Contract: Full Time Permanent

Location: Belfast

You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.
